One
of the downsides of many a good website is the time it takes for the
page to load in the visitors browser, this is usually due to either
overblown fancy graphics or large oversized picture files. The
visitor who frequently just wants to get to the content soon bypasses
the fancy graphics; the text and backdrop normally take no time at
all to download, which brings us to the pictures. |

A
picture is worth a thousand words they say, so don't be put off from
placing them on the site, instead let us reduce the file size for
you. Without getting into technicalities, this is simply done by
changing the format and/or compression rate. The following three
pictures are given as an example, they are thumbnail screen shots of
a very large picture file used on a commercial fishery supplies site. |

As
you can see there is no noticeable difference between example two
and example three, we also managed to enhance the original which
appeared washed out, so it not only now loads faster, it actually
looks better then the original. The picture was eventually used as a
backdrop for the site; the size 800 x 700 and the file size now only
32 KB, which loads in around 5 seconds at 56K. |
