Frequently Asked Questions

Q. On your Search Engine Submission Services page under "Keyword Research" you state, "we research the optimum combination of keywords for your site" what does this mean exactly?

A. We mean that we look at your type of business, your service or your product and carefully research key words that would apply to it. To give an example let us suppose that your company sold hand tools, in that case an obvious word to use would be "tool" we then check to see what were the top 100 most popular phrases typed into search engines containing the word "tool" this tells us not surprisingly that "tool" came out top with 314,352 people searching for it, it also reveals that another 193,618 searched for the term "garden tool"

This tells us that we can get a lot more hits if we place the following:- "garden tool", "gardening tool", "power tool", "tool box", "snap on tool", "wood working tool", "Stanley tool", "hand tool" and "air tool" etc as keywords too because these are the phrases that people are using.

The chart on the left shows actual results and isn't made up, we haven't got a clue what a harbor freight tool is but it does demonstrate the need for including American spelling in your keywords too as no one typed the word harbour into the top 20

Q. I couldn't find a pricing section on your site, are you considering adding one?

A. No, if you look in our Services Section you will see that we have given a guide to our prices, where we are able to. Items marked P.O.A. are dependent on customers requirements.

Q. Do you do e-commerce sites?

A. No, nor are we planning to at present at least not until they become easier to implement. If you have need for an E-Commerce site we are happy to call in a third party who could deal with that part but you would have to meet his costs independently.

Q. In your search engine submission why do you not submit to Excite?

A. We used to, when it was free, Excite is powered by Overture and was acquired by AskJeeves in March 2000 and now they charge for submission and we don't believe in paying for search engines, besides they are not that major. However, if you have plenty of money to waste then go to this link:-http://www.overture.com/d/about/advertisers/

Q. You state in your F.A.Q section that you don't believe in paying for search Engine submission and yet you actually charge nearly £20 for doing just this, is this a RIP OFF or what?

A. Not at all, there is nothing to stop our customers saving £19.99 and submitting themselves, that's the easy part and doesn't take too long to do. What our customers are actually paying us for is our knowledge built up over the years, of how search engines work and the research we do on their behalf (see 1st question at top of this page) and the meta tags that we place in their web pages as a result of this work. If you don't know what a meta tag is then go to our homepage click on "View" at the top of your browser then click on "Source" and read the first few lines of text. Some companies charge £49, £69 or even more for this, now that IS a rip off.

N.B. Please don't email anymore questions on meta tags instead just send us a cheque for £19.99 and we will happily explain :-)

Q. Can you guarantee a first place position ranking in the search engines?

A. That's simple, No, and any SEO that claims they can is a liar. (SEO = Search Engine Optimizer) we can not say what position you will achieve, it depends on too many factors, let us say that you were a Toy Manufacturer, then there must be a million of them out there. Actually we just this second checked Google and:-

Results1 - 10 of about 1,460,000 for Toy Manufacturer

So what a good guess in the first place! ffs, now we sound like Brucie! (Anyway, back to what we were saying), let us say that you were a Toy Manufacturer, then there must be at least 1,460,000 of them out there, we would concentrate on keywords (Again see 1st question above)

But if you were umm... erm... say, a specialist left wooden leg manufacturer you wouldn't expect a very high return, lets check for that phrase now

Hmmmm.....

Results 1 - 10 of about 12,800 for specialist left wooden leg manufacturer

Much higher then we would have expected, lets look at who came out with the number one ranking:-

The Bulletin > e-bulletin > Stories > Amputees: Left in limbo :

... AMPUTEES: LEFT IN LIMBO, ... amputees are stuck in the age of the wooden leg, writes Joshua ... director of the Advanced Prosthetic Centre, a specialist artificial limb ...

bulletin.ninemsn.com.au/bulletin/ eddesk.nsf/All/9AAB14B39A10AD02CA256B10001E99C3

O.K. we can see from how Google put the keywords in bold that he doesn't actually specialize in left wooden leg manufacturer, in fact he doesn't manufacture anything at all, it's from a publication. So if we put the keywords "Here at Acme we are a specialist in the manufacture of the left side wooden leg" into your page, that would give you 5 keywords as opposed to his 4, then when you get listed you may well come out at number one for that phrase and even quite high for right ones which you don't even make!

But we digress, the answer is NO and even Google say that. Check out Googles own article at:-

http://www.google.com/intl/mr/webmasters/seo.html If you are serious about ranking then it's well worth reading.

The only things that will give you a higher ranking are:-

Good, Well-written content

Good, Clean HTML Code

Useful, relevant TITLE tags

Relevant DESCRIPTION tags

Relevant, Well Researched KEYWORDS

If you can do these things then you don't need us, if you can't then is £19.99 too much to pay? Would even one extra customer cover that cost?

One last thing worth mentioning is that you are not going to see improvements in rankings happen overnight, it will take months not weeks. Even Google will only refresh its entire index once a month. After that your rankings should slowly rise over time.

Q. On your services page you give a guide to the cost of a website but do I have to pay a deposit?

A. That depends really, a lot of our business comes in through referrals, that is to say contacts of customers that we have designed sites for and we don't normally ask for one in those cases. If we are dealing with someone that we have no knowledge of then we ask for a 20% deposit. We must stress that this money would be refunded in full if for whatever reason you were not 100% satisfied with the finished site. Once we have your final approval we would expect the balance to be paid within one week of uploading the finished site to the server. It is at this point that we submit your site to the search engines and send you a copy of all files.
